John Taylor passed along a fun waterfall wandering trip. Check them out Embark On This Waterfall Road Trip In Indiana For A Wonderful Spring (onlyinyourstate.com). This is the time of year to do so. Also, I suggest a couple of places in Greene and Monroe Counties.

A good Sunday afternoon jaunt for us was as follows:

Driving west of Bloomington on SR46 to Ellettsville. We parked in the small historic downtown and walked around in town. Walking the Heritage Trail which follows Jacks Defeat Creek and is a rails to trail hike. Work up an appetite and stop at Jiffy Treet and grab some good comfort food – hot dog, hamburger, tenderloin with really good ice cream.

South and west to Canyon Forest Nature Preserve for a couple mile hike in the woods. Several small waterfalls and interesting outcroppings can be found in this preserve. Take a drive along Chapel Road to Solsberry and see the Yoho General Store (closed on Sunday). Keep heading west following the railroad tracks and admire the Tulip Trestle Viaduct. This train bridge is pretty amazing! You won’t be disappointed. Stop at the observation deck to get some information about the history and construction of the bridge.

Last stop was the Sculpture Trail. Wander to this park, there are so many cool, windy (and a lot of gravel) roads to traverse. I read about the Sculpture Trail in a magazine somewhere. Unfortunately, the day was getting late but this looks like a great place to hike and see all of the “unique art”. Check it out!
