In early November, a team of Banning Engineering employees presented at Harris Academy on careers in the survey and CAD industry. Harris Academy is a school in Brownsburg that serves Brownsburg and Avon High School students. This mastery-based small learning community serves juniors and seniors in a non-traditional environment. AJ Hopkins, a graduate of Harris Academy and BE’s Survey Crew Chief, presented on land surveying. Demonstrations of survey equipment used for a regular day out in the field were also a part of the survey presentation. Chandler Harden, Land Survey Assistant, shared his experience with survey and CAD work. The team also shared recent projects completed in the area and took time to share BE’s opportunities to engage with and give back to the community. Other BE employees that joined were Tammy Dickison, HR Manager, and Jeff Henson, VP of Operations. Jeff explained the outreach opportunity saying, “There were around fifteen students, and the chance to share about surveying and CAD was fantastic. It is always great to provide students with alternative opportunities to a four-year degree. We know from experience that students succeed in different settings, and we are excited to share those opportunities with them. Both AJ and Chandler set great examples for what students can achieve in a short amount of time without a 4-year degree, and we are proud to have them on our team”. In a later email, Austin Inge, Director of Harris Academy, thanked Banning Engineering for sharing about the firm as a whole and each of the team members personally. He also appreciated the team providing new knowledge and positivity to the students at Harris Academy.
