The weather is warming, and the flowers and trees are blooming! Many places were visited this past month. Check them out and pass along those places to visit!
It has been a fun month of wandering. So many great places can be found in Indiana. I am so proud to be a wanderer and an off-the-beaten-path traveler.
While traveling southeast for a family party, we took in Meltzer Woods, which is located in Shelby County. It’s a nice nature preserve with some flat and short hikes. While in the area, you need to take in a couple of historic covered bridges – Forsythe Mill and Moscow. They both cross the Flatrock River, which is scenic in its own right.
Did anyone find morel mushrooms this year? On Easter weekend, we were able to track some down. Romping in the woods and just losing yourself in God’s beauty, with all of the spring flowers blooming and the trees budding, is a wonderful afternoon event. Get away from the norm and live a different life for a couple of hours.
Our trip to Harrison County and our look-see at the blooming redbuds turned into a different experience this year. Spring came quickly this year! The beautiful red buds we see along the Ohio River were basically gone. But never fear, the dogwoods were really in bloom, and we experienced a different spring experience. We are going to have to decide which weekend is best for our next trip and which tree we want to see in bloom. You can’t go wrong.
While traveling southeast, our first course of action was to take in some history. Driving through Clarksville and New Albany will give you a great opportunity to see some nice things. Besides Falls of the Ohio State Park and the Lewis and Clark exhibits, you can enjoy historic homes, especially in New Albany.
The Culbertson Mansion is a very interesting tour. Take the time and check it out. Our goal was to visit the Floyd County Library. Why, you ask? To see the Yenawine Dioramas. We saw a video of these and thought they would be great to see in person. The best-laid plans don’t always pan out. Unfortunately, the library had some water damage, and the exhibit was not open. I guess we have another reason to return in the future.
Hiking on a beautiful, sunny, and warm spring day is the best. We found a nature preserve to go check out – Rabbit Hash Glade. Getting out and stretching the legs and seeing the flora and fauna is really refreshing. We also took a hike at O’Bannon Woods State Park. So many great sights to see.
On the wander home, we ended up checking out the Monon South Trail (a Banning Engineering project) and discovered a new restaurant in Bedford.
Bubbas Pizzas was fantastic – Strombolis, pizza, and breadsticks. It all looked so good that we had leftovers for several days. Highly recommended!
Several other places were visited, but there was not enough time to discuss. Pass along those places to check out. A lot of good travel destinations are coming up and a good report for next month.
