Have you found yourself sitting in traffic on US 36 recently? If so, you’re not alone—and there’s a reason for it. The Banning Engineering team, which includes Lochmueller Group, designed the new signalized intersection at 575 E and US 36 to support improved traffic flow for the new Avon Government Center and the growing Easton Grey neighborhoods—and if you’ve driven through the area lately, you’ve probably experienced the construction firsthand.

While it may look like a typical construction project, the work actually begins long before crews arrive on site. Before construction even begins, engineers study traffic patterns, crash history, and future growth to determine whether a signal is needed and how it should function, followed by detailed design of everything from turn lanes to signal placement and traffic flow.

Once construction starts, crews install underground conduit, wiring, foundations, and detection equipment, often reconfiguring existing features to improve safety. Then comes one of the most important steps: programming and testing, where signal timing is calibrated to balance traffic, reduce delays, and enhance safety.

While it may feel like a slow process, every step is intentional—resulting in a safer, more efficient intersection that supports Avon’s continued growth.
