When most people think of Banning Engineering, they think of Jeff Banning—the visionary founder who established the company in Plainfield, Indiana, more than 30 years ago. But behind every successful organization is a team of dedicated individuals who help shape its culture, guide its growth, and sustain its values. At Banning Engineering, we’re fortunate to have several long-standing team members who’ve played vital roles in our journey—none more enduring than Controller Scott Manson.

Scott joined Banning Engineering on May 11, 1998, when the company was still in its formative years, operating with just eight employees out of a modest office at 698 Tower Road, tucked behind the Plainfield post office. From the beginning, Scott saw something special in the company’s mission and direction. His belief in the vision and his commitment to excellence became foundational to our operational stability and long-term success.

As Banning evolved, Scott remained a constant presence. From overseeing office moves—including the transition to our current headquarters at 853 Columbia Road—to managing leases and budgets, Scott’s precision and steady leadership were instrumental. His attention to detail is legendary.

Striking a pose.

“If you want to understand how detailed Scott is… just assist him in moving… just once,” said Jeff Healy, Executive Vice President. “He is undoubtedly the most detailed person I know or have worked with. It has served him well in accounting and accounts receivable.”

Scott’s impact extended well beyond the spreadsheets. He was a dependable partner to team members across departments, helping colleagues stay on top of invoicing, accounts, and countless internal processes. His responsiveness, accuracy, and deep institutional knowledge made him a go-to resource for nearly three decades.

“Scott was very good at helping me keep track of invoicing—we worked well together,” said Ryan Lindley, Director of Commercial Development. “Any time I asked questions; he provided a prompt and accurate response. His knowledge will be missed. Scott has been great to work with—not only a co-worker, but a friend. And he gives great travel advice!”

Lora Myers, Billing Specialist, echoed that sentiment: “His attention to detail and patience while teaching made the work environment an enjoyable one to learn from. He was a tremendous resource—not just for work-related matters, but also for advice about cruises, financial planning, or even where to eat. Scott always made time for people.”

As Banning grew and our financial needs became more complex, it was only natural that Scott would transition into the formal role of Controller. He guided us through periods of both growth and uncertainty—including the 2008 recession and played a pivotal role in the strategic transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) in 2022. His financial stewardship helped position Banning for long-term success.

“Scott has been a trusted friend and coworker for 27 years,” said Jeff Banning, President. “He is a large part of why Banning Engineering is who we are today. We will miss his presence in the office and, especially, his long-term guidance that helped carry us from a startup to a mature, growing company.”

“Scott and I have worked closely the last 10 years and have accomplished a lot together,” added Jeff Henson, Vice President of Operations. “He helped me gain a tremendous amount of knowledge about the financial and project management side of Banning Engineering. He has truly been a great asset to Jeff Banning and the company as a whole.”

As Scott Manson steps into retirement and begins a new chapter in life, we celebrate a legacy defined by integrity, dedication, and quiet leadership. His contributions have helped shape not only our financial foundation but the very fabric of our company culture.

Scott, we thank you for your 27 years of remarkable service. Your impact on Banning Engineering will be felt for many years to come. We wish you all the best in the adventures ahead.
